After a long day wandering around Xidan shopping plaza looking for the best bargains and getting elbowed by eager chinese shoppers, we returned to the red lantern for some beers. At 3 kuai (20p) a 600ml bottle, you can’t complain. So much so that it doesn’t even matter who gets the round!

Glad you’re okay in China and your luggage has arrived, my mum always nags me to put a spare pair of pants/socks/toiletries in my hand luggage in case they lose your luggage(although I’ve never actually done it…maybe I should start now…) . Do you like the hostel? And I’m guessing you’ve found one of the internet cafes around the hostel rather than using the computer there? Just got back from France and apparently England has had torrential rains.

Hey there. The hostel is great. met loads of great people here. its just sad to see people go after you’ve spent a week or so wandering around with them. still, there are always new arrivals!
nah, for the moment i use the computers in here, its more convenient and pretty cheap. if im out and about then i go to the internet cafes instead. also got a phone so i can check my gmail and facebook on that
hope you enjoyed france, ive been chatting to a few francophones here, translating from chinese to french and back again is sooo strange!!

Yeah it is more convenient, the one I was thinking of was on the same side of the big street as the hostel is in a small street about 3 streets nearer to xinjie kou station( i think - it’s the nearest station) there is also another one which is on the other side of the road above a music shop further away from the station. I think it was about 2RMB/hour.
I did that a bit last time I was in China with French and Chinese as my Chinese was better than his and my French better than his English….
How much was your phone? Was it new or did you get it secondhand?

Phone was 1900, my chinese friends beat down the price a bit from 2080. Its a great phone so I can browse internet and use the gmail mobile app on it! Really handy and worth every penny, its great textin in chinese. Just gotta look after it now.
