Here are some photos of the Faithless gig in Beijing a couple of weeks back. I didn’t take the pictures so don’t blame me if the quality is a little shoddy
At least it will give you an impression of what the night was like.
A random collection of photos taken during the weeks holiday we had. I’ll ask around to see if anybody else has some more photos to share…
Finally some photos that I managed to get my hands on. Just a few of me and some classmates/fellow students at Capital Normal University. Quite a multicultural crowd really - French, Chinese, Belarussians, Russians, English, Americans, Japanese, Koreans, French Canadians, Thais, Bulgarians
I’ll have a dig around and see if I can find some more photos whilst the internet seems to be functioning.
Unfortunately, it was back to that 7:00am groggy start to the day as we went back to class today. Last week was a Chinese national holiday so we have been off classes for a week, a bit like a half term back in the UK I guess. Whilst a few friends disappeared off to Inner Mongolia or other parts of China, most Leeds students, including myself, stayed around in Beijing. It was nice to cut the studying for a week and get out and see Beijing again!
The highlight of the holiday has to be Wednesday night when I went along with some Leeds students to see ‘Faithless’ play LIVE at the Star Live Arena. It was a great night and possibly the best gig I have been to ever. The Arena was fairly small so it was a lively, intimate concert with a fired up crowd. Whilst most of faithless’s music is electronic, when they play live they recreate the sound using real percussion, guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. Its incredible to watch and makes you want to move…!
The following day, again with some classmates, I went along to the Beijing Modern Sky Music Festival. It was a massive event with four live music stages and a massive crowd to go with it. All was going well… until it began to chuck it down! The rest of the afternoon and evening consisted in hanging around in marquees drinking beer and eating kebabs, waiting for the headlining ‘Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ to come on at 8:00pm. In the end, it was so cold and wet that we only stuck around to see a few songs before chickening out and getting a taxi home for a hot shower. However, it was worth going just for the experience and mud. Plus we did see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, all the way from the USA!
Apart from that, have been doing lots of roller blading with my Thai roommate during the evenings. I managed to pick up an excellent pair of skates from a market for about 20 pounds and have quickly progressed. Great fun! Also been eating out lots, watching DVD’s, shopping, eating Beijing Duck and paying back my sleep deficits. What more could you ask for?
Unfortunately Beijing is rapidly becoming cold. In the space of a couple of weeks, not only can you no longer walk around in a T-shirt but often a hoody is not even warm enough! Here comes Beijing winter!!
Some photos to follow hopefully, the internet in the residence has been rubbish over the last few days so I have not been able to get online…
