Ice Biking at Houhai Lake

Yesterday me and Siqi went for an afternoon’s ice skating on Houhai lake in Beijing… only with a slight twist! Instead of skating on ice skates, we skated on ‘Ice Bikes’. Available for rent at 30元 an hour (about 2 pounds), an ice bike consists of some pedals, a rear wheel, some skates, a handlebar, brakes that don’t work and a nice comfy saddle. They are exceptionally wobbly and if you make sudden changes in direction they are also prone to spinning in circles and toppling over. Apart from that though they are great fun and you can get up to considerable speeds on them (if you dare). Afterwards, a visit to the local 小吃店 was required for some excellent little pastries and some nice warm soup. Anyway heres a little YouTube clip of the days action as well as some photos too.
